opening statement:

Human flourishing.

that is what the subject matter of God’s communication to man is all about.

grace and mercy of God

This human flourishing can only be realized through

The grace of God is manifested in the person of Jesus Christ

the unfolding of God’s plan and process of reaching ultimate human flourishing through Christ Jesus is the subject matter of the entire bible cover to cover

In this video we will examine the interactions of those whom God chosed to incrementally  reveal this message of human flourshing.

What He said to them and what did it mean to them and finally what does it me for those who have or desire to have a relationship with Elohim the creator of the universe. we begin with the writer immediately calling the audience into the past.

screen share: Hebrews 1: 1-3b

Observation:

Let’s consider first AE:how GOD communicated

then what did he communicate

THE HOW

the how is what is referred to by the writer when he says (various ways)

AE: FX MODES OF REV

Who God spoke to what did He say

The Prophets

God’s spokesperson

Abraham

GEN 12:1-3-descendants

  1. A) What was the message:

Chosen people through whom GOD will bless ALL the families of the world when people bless abrahams descendants God in turn blesses them. and a curse will be on those who have contempt for you.

        B) Description of message

 GEN 17 1-8

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the Sovereign God. Walk before me and be blameless. 2 Then I will confirm my covenant between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.”

3 Abram bowed down with his face to the ground, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer will your name be Abram. Instead, your name will be Abraham because I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you extremely fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. 7 I will confirm my covenant as a perpetual covenant between me and you. It will extend to your descendants after you throughout their generations. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

  1. C) guarntee of message

15:17-21

God also reveals to Abraham that He is a God who makes and keeps His promises

and to prove this to Abraham God 15:17 in a theophany of appearing as a burning oven walks thru his sacrfices that abraham

has split into two. This was a common covenant making ceremony practiced in ner when someone made a covenant they wld walk thru the sacrfices that had been split into 2 and by doing so they were saying that if I don’t fulfill my obligation in this covenant may I be split into 2 like these animals look at what God is communicating to the patriach Abraham

this speaks to both God’s faithfulness to His promises and His willingness to express Himself in a way that will resonate with Abraham As completely other as a Holy, eternal, all wise God is to a sinful finite mere human being God fits His message into abrahams culture, customs, and mindset

Human Flourshing

God’s word to abraham a portion  of the plan for mankinds redemption by calling it a blessing and a blessing that would be given thru a seed or 1 of abrahams descendants and this seed of abraham will not only be a blessing for abrahams descendants but rather the entire world.

so the 2 components of God’s promise to Abraham FATHER OF THE JEWS IS

1 blessing will come through one particular descendent Paul highlights this
Galatians 3:16:  Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “and to the descendants,” referring to many, but and to

your descendant,” referring to one, who is

Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor femalefor all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.
2 its not exclusive to the jews but rather all nations will be able to partake of this blessing

Moses

God reveal His will by revealing Him as a prophet like Moses DEUT 18;18-15

extermination of male jews during both there infancies.
when moses killed the egyptian in order to save his fellow jew

the word got out and his efforts where maligned and rejected driving him into gentile lands just like Jesus was rejected by the Jews and then he turned to the gentiles

like moses who had the wealth n riches n prestige of Egyptian royalty but did (to borrow language from phil…did not consider equality with the egyptians something to be grasped He risked it all in order to save a fellow hebrew)

AE SCRIP Phil 2: 6-7

6 who, though he existed in the form of God,

did not regard equality with God

as something to be grasped,

7 but emptied himself

by taking on the form of a slave,

by looking like other men,

and by sharing in human nature.

So Christ left His personal glory which is equality with God wrapped himself in human nature and put a veil over His intrinsic personal glory He did not divest Himself of His glory but because the very nature of glory is that which is to be seen the mere fact of Christ hiding it is as if He no longer had it.
Ex 2: like moses led the children of israel out of bondage not just by pronouncing plagues and working miracles but having the children depend on His faith for their deliverance we see that at the parting of the red sea when they panicked we see it a the waters of miraba

when they wantd to go back to egypt moses doesn’t panick and start doubting God along with them instead he trusts God to provide So with Christ in the midst of persecution and temptation He does not give in and sin like we give in and sin whn we r tempted

as a prophet like no one else b4 him God spoke with him mouth to mouth Christ came from God
Moses received the blueprint for the tabernacle (which is the place where man can find fellowship and peace with God) Jesus revealed that His body is the true tabernacle that is bc of the sacrifice of His physical body man can have true fellowship with God)

AESCRIPHEB 9: 12-14

12 and he entered once for all into the Most Holy Place not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himself secured eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.

AESCRIPjOHN 2  19

Jesus replied, Destroy this temple and in three days

moses was the go-bet man and God and he delivered the the law(10 commandments that could not save)

christ fulfilled took punishment those that believe

Moses interceded temporal

(Exodus 32:11–1330–32)

that only bought them time but that 1st gen would end up not making it in

Jesus intercedes for us eternally

2)message to Moses

A)God used a lot of metafores also known as Types & Shadows:
Priesthood because of adam and eves sin in the garden which caused sin to enter into humanity not only dominion and health and wealth was lost it also led to a great seperation betweeen a Holy God and a now sinful humanity.

And as stated earlier about the promise to abraham to seemingly restore what was lost in the garden of eden the problem of the great seperation b/t God and man also had to be addressed in this unfolding of God’s message(as paul stated this hidden plan of God which is revealed and exemplified by the church) to the ancestors of the Hebrews. Sin necessitated that there be a go b/t God and man. This is the priest under the mosaic covenant. The priest had to be pure inside and out and it ws hos job to take the animal sacrfices and present them to God. In this ceremony God graciously accepts an animal sacrfice in place of the sinner who deserves to die for their sins.

As we shall see thru out this study is that Jesus is the true priest

Thw works that God gave Moses to do also reveals Christ as the prophet who was to come.  symbolically wld be most closely related to theophany  such as the symbolism of the sacrficial system. God revealing that to be in good graces with God in order for their to have any relationship with God at all a sacrfice or shedding of blood (rabbi)would have to be made shedding of blood symbolizes the death of the subject. But it couldn’t be any animal it had to be an animal without blemish or defect in other words an animal that was born pure inside and exhibited perfect wholeness outside

Various ways can also be seen in the differrent genres that scripture is written in the first 5 books are historical and biographical but the psalms are artistic and creative

and in this poetry David sings in

Animated lowr3rdps 51

Certainly you do not want a sacrifice, or else I would offer it;

you do not desire a burnt sacrifice.

17 The sacrifice God desires is a humble spirit—O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject

Clearly this is not only insight into the ways of God which have never changed from the very beginning… but it stands as prophecy of the new living way that man will be able to approach God once true living sacrfice has been offered up.

while the priest of the ancient Hebrews were simply a type or a foreshawdoing of what Christ would actually do when He after dying on the cross presents himself in the temple of Heaven as an acceptable sacrfice for the sins of all those who show honor to the covenant?

How does one show honor to the covenant? By honoring the commandment of Christ.

Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand

john 12:44-49

What does this mean?

What was God’s purpose in this communication through prophets and work in His son?

lets first note like the majority of biblical prophecies there is a real time fulfillment but yet there’s also something beyond that the prophecy speaks to(this  is often referred to as the

AE FX all ready  not yet motif

Heb 6:13-15 a real promise with flesh and blood descendants and  real land

but at the same time the same writer here in the same book also says:

Heb 11 8-13

but not the fulfillment . went about in tents

heb 11″39-40- this is the human flourishing we spoke of in the beginning

Jesus’s testimony

this is not unique to the writer of Hebrews Jesus also confirms this ultimate truth when He says:

John 8:51-58

abraham rejoiced,. u r not in league with Abraham if..

Whats the promise?

  1. A) SALVIFIC(personal sanctification) STATEMENT

The difference b/t Jesus and His Hebrew prophet predecessors is perfectly summed up  by John the Baptist they had to testify ‘I am not the Light, I am only sent to bear witness of the Light.’

But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (although it is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed— 22 namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ

this is referring to the bibical accounts found in the old testament when we read about abraham moses king david prophets such as isaiah. What connects the old testament to the new testament is that it is all the same message and the results of that message can be summed up in

2tim3:14-17

obviously paul is referring to the old testament scriptures bc at the time of writing this letter the new testament has not been fully completed as yet as a matter of fact paul by sending this letter is writing the new testament in real time.

acts 2:29

29 Brothers, I can speak confidently to you about our forefather David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31 David by foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did his body experience decay. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out what you both see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says,

The Lord said to my lord,

Sit at my right hand

35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.”

Jesus affirms for us that the old testament is actually about him when He says in

luke 24:13-25

so u never want to divorce the old testament from the new

.

4 When reading this, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ 5 (which was not disclosed to people in former generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit), 6 namely, that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. 7 I became a servant of this gospel according to the gift of God’s grace that was given to me by the exercise of his power. 8 To meless than the least of all the saintsthis grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ 9 and to enlighten everyone about God’s secret plan—the mystery that has been hidden for ages in God who has created all things. 10 The purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and confident access to God by way of Christ’s faithfulness.

WORLDVIEW LOOKBACK

lifeview
so we see bc its God’s heart to repair the damage done by sin its God’s priority to communicate in direct straight forward intelligible ways ways that have a point of contact in a creation that has been made in His image so the creator of the universe is a personal God not a force not an energy and of necessity He must stand outside of creation in order to have created so the universe itself cant possibly be God unless u believe that something without a central mind and will can create itself which is foolishness. U can’t communicate like this with animals and God communicates in stages as HE BUILDS UP TO CHRIST
If God strategically and methodically over the span of 2000 yrs-abraham to Jesus communicated with man using all sorts of methods coming from all different angles explaining the same thing over and over again forgiving and sharing his thoughts in the hopes of repairing the damaged relationship not that He caused but wht the other party caused

Now having our sins forgiven and becoming Christians also falls under the category of partial fulfillment. not that we are only partially forgiven God forbid we are as Paul said we are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies right now but not quite yet… we began talking about  human flourishing so lets end there the realization of ULTIMATE HUMAN FLOURSHING  is time based. And that’s what the book of Hebrews is thoroughly concerned with and it is what we will dive into deeper as we make our way through this remarkable book.

Christ's Ownership

Christ’s inheritance is the universe and mankind

Scripture shows us after His resurrection He was  given all power in heaven and earth

He has overcome the power of death

He sits at the right hand of God the Father

How this shows us that, from the beginning, Christ was the Center of all the Divine counsels. Before a single creature was called into existence, God had appointed an “Heir” to all things, and that Heir was the Lord Jesus. It was the predestined reward of His Voluntary humiliation; He who had not where to lay His head, is now the lawful Possessor of the universe.

Third, a few words now on the extent of that Inheritance unto which the Mediator has been deputed: “Whom He hath appointed Heir of all things.” The manifestation of this is yet future, but confirmation of it was made when the risen Savior said to the disciples, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and earth” (Matt. 28:18). At that time we will recall God’s words, “I will declare the decree (i.e., the “appointment”), Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee. Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heaven for Thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession” (Ps. 2:7, 8). His proprietorship of mankind will be evidenced when He shall “sit upon the throne of His glory: and before Him shall be gathered all nations; and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats” (Matt. 25:31, 32). His right to dispose of all will be witnessed at the great white throne. But it is when this world has passed away that His universal Heirship will be fully and eternally displayed: on the new earth shall be “the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Rev. 22:1)!

V3- UPHOLDS BY HIS WORD the universe is not itself divine (pantheism) but contingent on God for its creation, conservation, and culmination.

satan rules the age  Christ owns the universe

3 The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Christ is like the rays from the sun it is the same substance of the sun but is distinct from the sun there was never a time that the sun existed but its rays did not we are able to see the sun by the brightness of the rays in that same way Christ reveals the person and character mind, heart and will of God we cannot no the creator of the universe apart from seeing  Jesus the Son

This description of the likeness of the Son to the Father does not refer to the eternal ontological reality of God apart from creation but to the revelation of the Father by the Son in creation. JOHN 1:1 Reasons for this conclusion are that historical revelation is the theme of this passage (cf. vv. 1, 2a), that the thought has already moved into the sphere of creation at verse 2b, and that the language of verse 3a itself is, of course, that of manifestation. Moreover, the location of this statement between affirmations concerning the Son’s role in creation and providence (vv. 2b and 3b) does not favor taking this divine manifestation as a reference to the incarnation. The only way to satisfy the contextual requirements then would seem to be to understand verse 3a in terms of pre-incarnation theophany, and, in particular, the Glory revelation of the Creator spoken of in Genesis 1:2b. The allusion to Genesis 1:2 in verse 3a would then account for the use of the verb “bearing” (pheré) in verse 3b.9

Just as the eternal SON OF GOD WHO IS THE WORD OF GOD MAKES THE EXCELLENCY MAJESTY CREATIVITY AND POWER OF GOD KNOWN THROUGH CREATION HE ALSO REVeals the love mercy grace of GOD known thru His suffering life and victorious resurrection on behalf of man

2tim2

12 If we endure, we will also reign with him.

4 Thus he became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

Christ as God-Man elevates humanity above the angels

all power has been given to Christ now and he awiaits until His enemies are a footstool for his feet. the last enemy to be defeated is death

heb 10

12 But when this priest had offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 where he is now waiting until his enemies are made a footstool for his feet.

We as christians currently walk by faith and according to human time Jesus is currently sitting by faith we are waiting for human flourshing He is waiting for enemy destruction. and these are indeed 2 sides to the same coin

and it is in the future that He will as the God-man sit on the white throne of judgement and separate the goat from the sheep there will be a new heaven and new earth and after all this He will officially come into His inheritance so its an already not yet

KINGDOM LIVING

1 Corinthians 11:1
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

  •
  • 1 Peter 2:19-23

  • For this is commendable,

  • if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults,

Romans 8:29
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son,

  •
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

    Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

  Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

Philippians 3:10-11
that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Matthew 5:10-12
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

REMEMBER WHAT WE SAID ABOUT God’s dedication to reconciliation

then I to should dedicate myself to repairing my broken relationships bc whther or not im to blame is inmaterial whn the other party is offended bc them being offended is just as of a big deal as if I were offended
Oftentimes we have a tendency in our relationships to not tell the other person what we have against them what they did or said tht has caused us to resent them or we wait until the other party is vulnerable and then we strike with all sorts of physcological emotional verble punishmentment but imagine if God treated u tht way what if God waited until after u were dead and whn u no longer had a chance to make things right that’s when He communicated to u wht ur sin was and the punishment for it but make no mistake its not a mindset of oh since God did it for me I guess ill do it for someone else(like a chore) no no look at it this way the human body needs water to survive why?bc its made up of water there is no human being tht doent need water to survive so likewise if there is not a deep need (not saying its automatic or easy) but if the need to forgive and deep desire wanting to get to reconcile a relationship and restore fellowship if thts is non existant in u then u have to realize this reveals a spiritual immaturity at best

Introduction: God Has Spoken Fully and Finally in His Son
1 After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, 2 in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world. 3 The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word,
