A quick word on our overall goal for the channel bc it is closely connected to how we will approach book of hebrews

overall goal for this channel

to highlight the relationship between a christian worldview and a christian lifeview

Differences between worldview and lifeview

Worldview simply put is how u view reality.

What do u know to be true in order to support ur view of reality.  In understanding what a worldview is its helpful to consider what a worldview does-

AE CWV LIST

A persons worldview is there answer to such questions as

1) How the universe was created
2) What is the origin of mankind
3) If a creator does exist can he be known
4) How can He be known

Lifeview

piggybacks off of worldview in that it says ok with my worldview being a matter of fact

AE CLV LIST

1) What values do I live by in other words what do I consider to be

Good actions

  1. What is my role in society

  2. What ideas and concepts are worth your time thinking n talking about.

  3.  and what goals are worth working towards

5)What actually influences ur decision making (community leader, sacrd text, opinion of others

AND IN THE BOOK OF HEBREWS WE WILL SEE HOW THE AUTHOR  WILL GO BACK AND FORTH

SAYING OK THIS IS WHAT U BELIEVE and condess as a christian AND CONFESS SO WITH THAT SAID THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD BE LIVing (we get clues that the audience had suffered thru persecutions in the past and after a lull persecutions has started up again and they r losing faith in Christ bc of it) but the writer is saying   this given ur worldview that God created the universe thru Christ and now the universe creation all of reality is held up by Christ -is how u should interpret your present situation and this is what u should work towards and this is what u aught to be focused upon TIME AND TIME AGAIN WE WILL SEE THIS FOR EXAMPLE

sharescreen IN CHAP 6:13-18

THE WRITER REMINDS THE AUDIENCE HOW God made a promise to Abraham that cant be broken and informing them that God neither lies or changes His mind  the audience is ought to take this worldview and theology

sharescreen

and do as abraham did  WHAT DID ABRAHAM DO? HE FOUND   HIS SECURITY AND TRUST FOR personal FLOURISHMENT AND BECOMING THE SOURCE OF FLOURISHMENT and purpose FOR THE REST OF MANKIND

IN THE PROMISES OF GOD

ALONG WITH THE OATH AND DEMO OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS TO HIS WORd(we will discuss the demonstration God performed in lesson 1 heb1:1-3b

AND BASED ON THe promise HE  PERSEVERED BY

extractING from security in their salvation, encouragement and resolve to continue in the faith.

the writer offers this as an encouragement to endure in what he previously just said

v10-12

endurance as it were manifests itself in the serving of the saints and an eagerness for the fullfillment of our hope till the end Whats the end? the end of this age or the consummation of our salvation which we will explore in future lessons in this playlist.

world/life view is vitally important

About the book of hebrews

The book of hebrews begins with est that God has revealed Himself his character and His intentions for all of mankind specifically to the jewish patriarchs n prophets

And so there is no confusion we are reminded that the entire

universe and all of reality

it can be easily said that the

book of hebrews is itself a summary of world history

not world history in the sense of the migration of people groups the forming of nations or the progress of human development but rather the redemptive history of God;s dealings with man

The tech term for these dealings is the term

AE Covenant

entering into covenant is a manifestation of God’s grace and mercy towards man in order for their to be intimate loving relationship b/t God and man

The concept of unhindered fellowship with God and becoming absolutely perfect in His sight is all over the book of Hebrews

this glorified state(or in other words ultimate human flourshing collectively as well as the individual) is framed in various ways by the writer of Hebrews

AE TRANSITION
HIST

Such as Heb 2:10
as Christ bringing many son to glory

The world to come

And chap 4 -entering God’s rest

and in heb 9:28 to bring salvation cause if u think about it if at Christ return He’s bringing salvation that cant mean forgiveness of sin cause we are already forgiven whn we repent of our sins and place our faith in Christ

so already we see that the full extent the full expression of ultimate human flourshing doesn’t end with justification in this age

no, justification, is the first step in the process

human flourishment is not complete even in ongoing sanctification.ALL THE BENEFITS of Christ being raised from the dead and ascending into heaven aRE not fully realized until Christ’s 2nd coming

SINGLE SCRIP
Hebrews 11

does not teach us….

that we should believe God for a bentley NOR DOES IT TEACH THAT U SHLD BE SATISFIED N CONTENT WITH the “PURPOSE” U CAN ACHIEVE IN THIS LIFE being tht it will be unavoidably limited and imperfect purpose rather we should live lives that above all else is in service to imitating the ethical perfection and loving fellowship among our fellow man that we’re eagerly anticipating to inherit at the return of Christ .

Now, does that mean we just sit around and read our bibles all day while we wait to die no,

But it does mean that  success…

in MINISTRY SUCCESS, BUSINESS SUCCESS, NON PROFIT OR A RELATIONSHIP……..should not and indeed is not our promised land

In fact to TO MAKE any accomplishment or acheivement in this life UR PROMISE LAND IS THE WORST FORM OF SETTLELING KNOWN TO MAN that’s the realization Paul came to prompting him to say in

Call out
1 COR 15:19

but rather verses 39-40 let us KnoW that

what our faith gets us if we hold on to it till He comes again is

perfection in every sense of the word perfect LIFE N PERFECT LIVING IN OUR RESURRECTED bodies never to die again. Perfect sinless character and perfect unhindered fellowship with God.

IN OTHER WORDS whatever great SUCCESS-shadow

u attain IN LIFe recognize it for what it truly is nothing more than an incomplete imperfect shadow of whats to come in the new city

And incidentially that shadow to substance motif is the backbone of the letter to the hebrews

this new world order in which every single human being is perfectly righteous
Society and culture is perfectly just –
As peter puts it in

2 Peter 3:11-18
In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells

THE GENRE

Now, bc of its title-letter to the hebrews- many people make the mistake of mentally placing

MISTAKE Hebrews into  the same cateogory

as the other letters to the churches  in which those  letters  were primarily to instruct and encourage believers in the christian faith and lay out orthodox theology and HEBREWS absolutuely does all of those things beautifully

BUT whats unique about heb what really makes it distinct

is the connection drawn out and highlighted between the

AE atoning work of Christ(all Jesus did to save mankind from God’s wrath towards sin) and eschatology

eschatalogy

is one of those words you use when trying to sound smarter than you really are it simply means  end of an age. Not the end of time but end of an age.

so in your mind we want you to put Hebrews in the same

cateogory as you would  the book of revelation

so what do we base this claim on u may ask

In the book of rev 21 1-3

we see the end of history and God’s ultimate purpose for man and all of creation finally realized.

Which is marked by

New heaven

New earth

And what is crucially important a new city

 civilization

And Community

and how it is an essential part of GOD’S ULTIMATE PLAN N PURPOSE 4 man

At the end of the age each individual person will stand b4 God FOR JUDGEMENT as it sTates in

 AE TEXT HEB 9:27

Those who are christians will receive new physical  bodies. but for the most part that’s where the focus on the individul ends all talk of new earth is colored with community and sharing and fellowship among man as we enjoy unhindered fellowship with the God of abraham isacc and jacob

priesthood

wolf shall lay down with the lamb in other words no more strife or predatory behaviour fro,m man or beast

In others words Christ atoning work on the cross  frees us from the guilt and condemnation of sin removing what alienates man from God

We by faith live a life characterized by drawing closer and closer to God thru Christ

As the Holy Spirit shows teaches and strengthens us to not use God as an instrument to a particular end but rather cause us to make God our end

It wld be perfectly accurate to say that the book of Hebrews is the God given blueprint to human flourshing in its ultimate sense.

now, lets back up here so we can go forward talk about

Flourshment thru priesthood

Now, a prerequiste to the eradication of sin is the removal of the guilt and dominance of sin that hung over the head of every man and women.

The book of hebrews  breaks down God’s plan of removing this guilt and dominance in other words God’s plan of redemption.

Building upon his audiences prior knowledge of the call of Abraham the writer of hebrews shows how Christ is that promised descendant of abraham that will be used by God to bless all nations everywhere and moving forward in time the writer speaks of  the times of moses including the aaronic priesthood priesthood and sacrficial system to make temp atonement for sin. The writer delienates how God in  order to redeem man 2 mitigate his his wrath towards man with substitute animal sacrfices until a true representative of man can die on the behalf of man comes along in the person of Christ Jesus. Man was not made in the image of animals so an animal can not makeup for the sin of adam  eve

AE col 1:16

but man was however made in by and for Christ qualifying Christ as an acceptable sacrfice . But the book hebrews not only deals with history

it also reveals God’s ultimate transcendant purpose for making man in which we currently await  consummation

which is nothing less than the est. of ultimate human FLOURSHING for all of eternity

The bible is not just a collection of stories to help u become a good person although

a proper response does lead to that albeit imperfect.

nor is it a book of principles that u implement to improve ur socio economic status although

the christian life is marked by self control and a desire to be productive which r attitudes that can aid in improving ur bank acct

but we discover that this

  promise

of ultimate human flourshing  on the new earth has the 2nd coming of  Christ as its prerequiste

The bible is a book that reveals  ultimate realities

couched in narratives and

presented in propostions

meant to provide a way of escape from the coming judgement upon a cursed world where every single human being who hasn’t repented of their sin and put faith in Christ for salvation will go to hell.

And if that narrative  is not your worldview then please understand that you stand in opposition with the bible

Repenting of ur sins includes:

abandoning the false idea that you can name the name of Christ but

Faith consists of having confidence in 2 realities

1 the fact that Jesus physcially rose from the dead never to die again bc that’s the only just outcome for a man who never committed a sin.

Bc death is the result of sin.

Jesus is alive now never to die again and He’s still doing the work of a priest

7:25

and even as you watch this video Christ is currently in heaven interceding on our behalf so that temptations dont cause us to walk away from the promise

2 and said confidence compels u to live as Christ did (knowing full well that bc the world is cursed ln living like Christ u by defauit initiate ur own personal crucifixion carrying ur cross daily accepting all kinds of death for the sake of the gospel whether physical if it comes to that or

or death to our pride, status, and ego in spite of the shame bc Christ as the very image of God who existed as God the son in eternity past will return again and raise u from the death to live in a God-like mode of existence in which u will live on the new earth with a new heart mind and physical body that is incapable of  sinning ever again .

and it is to this endevour that the book of hebrews speaks to us in a profound way

it is all thru out the book but we see it in a nice nutshell in

AE heb 12:2-7

In other words God has promised that mankind will enjoy a GODLIKE MODE OF EXISTENCE

3 major themes

3 major themes of hebrews

To properly orientate us to the universal and timeless message found in the book of hebrews we have distilled it down 2

We will SKETCH OUT THIS TRIAD now and thru out this book study WE WILL continuelly revist these cateogories expounding on them more n more

ae 3 block

  1. ATONEMENT: God removing the guilt of sin from man through death of Christ. Thereby  accomplishing the necessary 1st step in bringing man  into ultimate human flourshing,  honor and prestige .this ultimate human flourshing,  honor and prestige  being understood as becoming completely formed into the sinless perfection of the  image of Christ when He returns to earth and  christians whove died in the past r resurrected with new bodies n those who r alive r changed instantly reciving new bodies.

God removes the guilt of sin from man through the death of Christ. Thereby  accomplishing the necessary 1st step in bringing man

into ultimate human flourishing, transcendent honor, and prestige .This ultimate human flourishing, transcendent honor, and prestige is understood as becoming completely formed into the sinless perfection of the image of Christ. Upon Christs’ returns to earth Christians who’ve died in the past are resurrected with new bodies, and those who are alive are changed instantly by receiving new bodies.

  1. Endurance: During this earthly life christians are  freed from the penalty of sin but not the presence of sin.1 role of The Holy Spirit in the life of all christian is to form the heart n mind of Christ within them  causing the christian  to RECOGNIZE REnounce AND REDUCE   the SIN IN THEIR LIVES. Because human nature is by defintion sinful and we live in a sinful world inner conflict is unavoidable. This inner conflict is what suffering is really all about. It is the christians duty to suffer in this way. The Holy Spirit’s other role is to console and encourage during these times. This will undoubtly creates friction b/t Holy Spirit and their human nature. The backdrop  of this friction is our daily lives our actions  thoughts and words.

  2. so,

  3. in light of this divine agenda of The Holy Spirit its clear that our ultimate purpose in life is to obey the Holy Spirit as He instructs us in the ways and ethics of Christ. This life long process becomes exponentially sophisticated as we continuely refine our thought processes in such a way    that it resembels more and more the  overall mindset of Christ

Setting expectations:  given we living in a corrupt unholy society which is why it must b

AE as heb1 10-14 rolled up and changed like a garment when the christian IS  led by the Spirit of holiness success in this endevour periodically comes at the expense of losing personal honor & prestige the book of hebrews usues the word “reproach”  in referance to this, u wont lose self respect but u often do  lose respect and value in the eyes of others and risk being canceled bc of ur beliefs  , and u will be as Jesus warned us in john 15 18-19 hated rather than celebrated

hebrews teaches us tht

You can have an accurate cwv but it will not materialize into a truly clw whenyou purposefully seek to avoid the reproach of Christ.

every christian should keep in mind Romans 5:3-4 NIV

guilt of sin was removed when u became a christian and now with a new body the presence and effects of sin is fully eradicated  incapable of committing sin

alive and functiong in a new earth free of a corrupt society. with a new community free of tempting others to sin. And for the first time since time began bc this is what it has all been leadung upto this consummation of new heaven n new earth will be a static state in orther words no more changes. Conclusion

salvation in the book of hebrews

The 2 non-negotiable concepts change in covenant God's faithfulness

The 2 non-negotiable concepts found in the book of hebrews are

Split screen list

1) It articulates the covenantal change that takes place as Gods plan of salvation transitions from messages in the old covenant to the actual mechanics worked out by Christ in the new covenant.

2) It affirms God’s faithfulness

Covenantal change:

from the beginning God has desired ultimate flourshment for all of mankind which is to have unhindered fellowship with mankind and this pristine and perfect fellowship to branch out among mankind. God will do this thru a human messiah and the people from whOM the messiah will come are the jews and abraham is the patriarch. and we move along the covenantal timeline to the mosaic covenant then the 1st coming of the messiah and finally the 2nd coming of that messiah.

Sin thwarts this endevour by
causing us to elevate self above God and others

now, how does this playout?

When pursuing our happiness and reaching for advancement in life the sin nature fights against us bc we r programmed by sin to see

1 obeideance to God’s word as a hinderance rather than a help.

2 rather than reflecting God’s love by loving others as God has loved us we now crave acceptance, celebration, validation and figuratively speaking worship from man and when we dont get it thats when sinning against each other starts

Christ death on the cross, satisfies God’s Holiness therby we are saved from God’s judgement and wrath

resurrection from the dead, and ascension into heaven. Actually enables us to love God more than creation and indeed more than our very selves.

Life after death has always been the ultimate promise of the abrahamic covenant

Why The mosaic covenant shows why death is necessary

How New covenant the victory over death

That’s the covenantal change.

and it affirms God’s faithfulness by reminding us over and over again how God made a promise and set in motion a plan for human flourshing and this plan of redemption is

a promise for us but not secured by us

(conclusion) God's promises secured

So…

Yes, it will be a scholarly examination in which we will explore key doctrines n
employ responsible hermeutics but make no mistake there are boots on the ground real life practicality that we will gain from this study. u will come away from this study knowing how to be a better human in this world
